Samsung Electronics had proclaimed the recall of 2.5 million fire-prone Note 7s in initial September.
Samsung Electronics Co Ltd is in discussions with LG Chem Ltd to generate it one of its smartphone battery suppliers, told by the Chosun Ilbo newspaper on Monday, 19the December 2016 – a move that would expand its supplier base after the disappointment of its Galaxy Note 7.
The newspaper Chosun Ilbo had quoted an industry accepted as saying that there was more than a 90 percent probability of a transaction being struck and declared that Samsung Electronics would likely begin obtaining LG Chem batteries from the second half of next year 2017.
A spokeswoman of Samsung did not have instant remark on the report, even though an LG Chem spokesman decayed to declaration.
Samsung Electronics declared the recall of 2.5 million fire-prone Note 7s in early September, a fault that was accredited to a defect in Samsung SDI battery. In October, it pulled the plug on the $882 device after replacement phones consuming batteries from China’s Amperex Technology also caught fire.
LG Chem presently makes phone batteries for its affiliate LG Electronics and US Company Apple, analysts said.
