By using data gathered from Baihe, one of the biggest Dating Sites in China, scientists from University of Massachusetts Lowell, Binghamton University and Northeastern University urbanized a reciprocal reference system that better suits users who are jointly interested in and prospective to interconnect with each other.
The data exposed behavioral variances between men and women users when it comes to communicating prospective partners in Dating Sites. In specific, men tend to be concentrated on their own interests and be unconscious toward their desirability to prospective dates, while women are more aware of their own desirability. Co-author Shuangfei Zhai stated, “We observed that men like to send more messages to beautiful women users, but they won’t get a lot of replies.
Zhai studied, “For women, they are self-conscious as they incline to assess the likelihood of receiving a response to the user that they are sending messages to. In terms of the statistics, it shows that females have a much bigger chance of getting replies from users that they send messages to.” The study is available in Social Network Analysis and Mining.
