Two notorious virus file are circulating over instant messaging app WhatsApp and are capable to sneak into personal details of the user
New Delhi: Central security organizations have alerted defense and security personnel in contrast to the malicious activity of a virus, falsely bearing the name of elite organizations like NDA and NIA, that may break and hack into their personal information and banking data. An advisory was give out on December 30 to the defense and security agencies in the country states that the 2 notorious virus file are circulating over instant messaging app WhatsApp and are capable to sneak into personal details of the user, particularly the men in uniform.
The two files, as per the advisory accessed by sources, are– “NDA-ranked-8th-toughest-College-in-the-world-to-get-into.xls” and “NIA-selection-order-.xls“.
Officials aware of to the contents of the advisory stated the NDA here is understood to be signifying to army’s National Defense Academy in Khadakwasla in Pune while NIA to the premier terrorist incidents’ probe organization– the National Investigation Agency.
It is assumed that the malicious virus-laden file is formatted in the form of ‘MS Excel‘ file majorly, but officials did not rule out it’s aliases in the ‘MS Word‘ or ‘.PDF’ formats to attack a user’s phone and data.
The advisory added that the corrupt virus files are “programmed” to unlawfully extract personal information of the user, their login credentials and banking details like passwords and PIN numbers.
“As these two organizations are very popular and known within the country and abroad and there is a interest to know more about them, it is possible that it may disturb the mobile phones of people interested in these subjects. Though, it has been analyzed that the men and women in defense, paramilitary and police forces could be the target groups,” they stated.
Officials stated the information has now been shared with the field formations of these security forces so that the troops and officers on the ground are made conscious and alerted against this virus which has been seen circulating in the instant messaging app WhatsApp cyber space recently.
The personnel have also been suggested to report these incidents to their Information technology cells, they stated.
