12,000 participants registered to join the marathon event that is going to happen on November 12.
Visakhapatnam: As a part of ‘Swarna Varsha’ celebrations of the Eastern Naval Command (ENC), the 4th edition of Vizag-Navy Marathon will be conducted on Beach Road on 12th November. Vizag-Navy Marathon, an initiative of the ENC, was initiated in 2014 with a meek number of runners. It has seen continuous support, support and overwhelming participation from people of the ‘City of Destiny’ over these years. This time, there are 12,000 participants listed to run. Like the previous year, the marathon this year includes 42 km full Marathon, 21.1 km half marathon besides 10 km and 5 km initiating from the Viswapriya Hall towards Bheemili on the pristine Beach Road.

The 42 km race will begin at 4:15 am, with turning point close INS Kalinga. The 21.1 km race will start at 5:15 am and its turning point will be the ‘Gayatri Vidya Parishad’ school before Gitam Hospital. The 10 km race begins at 6:15 am with its turning point at Tenneti Park while the 5 km race will start at 6:45 am and the runners will turn at the Kurupam Joint. Youth from Sea Cadet Corps, NCC, schools and colleges have come forward as helpers to assist and inspire the runners all along the way with hydration and nutrition backing. First Aid posts will also be set up to help the participants in need.
To make sure safety and security of the runners and smooth conduct of the occasion, vehicular movement on the beach road from Kalimata temple nearby RK Beach till Gitam College, Visakhapatnam will be regulated on Sunday morning from 3 am to till 11 am. Contributors, volunteers and supports are entreated to do carpooling or use as public transport to reach the venue.
An occasion of this magnitude has been an accomplishment only because of the whole-hearted contribution of one and all. The Vizag-Navy Marathon has been a celebration of bravery, stamina and enthusiasm among the citizens of this health-conscious city, from 2014. This is not just a marathon, but a fervently awaited ‘festival’ for proficient runners, elders, amateurs, kids, families, friends and corporates. The Vizag-Navy Marathon has been a unique way to motivate one and all with the spirit of running, with a way that challenges both the physical fortitude and mental toughness of the racers as well as aids to forge strong bonds of amity and friendship.
