Melbourne: Age seems to be no obstruction for Venus Williams.

The 36-year-old Williams beat No. 24-seeded Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova 6-4, 7-6 (3) on Tuesday, turning into the oldest player to succeed in the Australian Open women’s semifinals in the Open era.

Her fiftieth career win at Melbourne Park earned her a spot within the last four for the primary time in fourteen years.

“It’s fantastic to begin the year out with this appearance,” said Williams, who hadn’t reached the semifinals here since 2003, the year she lost the final to her sister, Serena. “I wish to travel more. I am not happy simply with this. However, i am so happy to be in the position to love go more.”

She will next play either French Open champion Garbine Muguruza or coco Vandeweghe, who are each within the Australian Open quarterfinals for the primary time.

“Whoever wins, I am just so excited that I even have a chance to play once more,” Williams said. “That’s all I am targeted on.”

Williams dropped four service games against Pavlyuchenkova, however, she responded every time by breaking back. Within the extra time, she trailed 3-1 before winning the last six points – sealing the match on Pavlyuchenkova’s double-fault.

The seven-time major winner has advanced through the tournament while not dropping a set, recovering from a right elbow injury that enforced her to extract from a warmup tournament in New Zealand.

Now she is into semifinals for the second time in 3 majors – once a six-year absence from the last four – and for the twenty-first time overall.

With her run to the suburbia semifinals last year, Williams became the oldest lady since Martina Navratilova in 1994 to advance thus far at a significant. Navratilova was thirty-seven, years 258 days at the top of Wimbledon that year.

The record belongs to Billie Jean King, who was thirty-nine years, 223 days once she reached the Wimbledon semifinals in 1983.
