TU-142M aircraft which was decommissioned after 29 years of service arrived Visakhapatnam and converting it into a Museum.
Visakhapatnam: One of the Long range Maritime Patrol Aircraft of Indian Navy TU-142M was landed finally after 29 years of service in Visakhapatnam on Saturday.
Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh N. Chandrababu Naidu received the Aircraft at INS Dega and presented bouquets to the team of five members as the plane landed for the final time.
Eastern Naval Command, Flag Officer Commanding-in-Chief, Vice Admiral HCS Bisht and other officials attended the event. Previously the flying machine took off from INS Rajali, the air station of the Indian Navy at Arakkonam, Tamil Nadu.
Nearly for three decades the flying machine TU-142M is one of the fastest, heaviest and highest flying turbo airborne in the world which had been the foundation of long-range Maritime reconnaissance and Anti-Submarine Warfare (ASW) Operations of the Indian Navy.
The officials are making the arrangements to convert the TU-142M Aircraft into a museum on the lines of Kursura Submarine Museum on the Beach Road in Visakhapatnam. The authorities are planning to place the aircraft on one acre of land on the beach road by the month of June.
It is estimated that the entire project costs Rs 10 crore. The technical evaluation of tenders by five firms for converting the airship was completely and it only remained with the financial proposal which will be opened soon.
TU-142M aircraft would be dismantled at INS Dega and will be shifted to the lines of Kursura Submarine Museum on the Beach Road for assembling and converting it into a museum form.

It is also expected that the entire work will take nearly 30 to 45 days for dismantling and assembling and it would be placed on a strong surface with tight support. The weapons inside the Aircraft like guns, torpedoes and Sono buoys are going to be displayed and necessary arrangement will be made for the people to visit the museum.
The district authorities have finalized the tender for the aircraft for dismantling and sooner will shift the aircraft.
