Hyderabad: Debtors are in for severe trouble as the metro water board began stoppage of sewer lines from Monday, with above 120 cuts had affected on day one itself. The water board has recognized 3,000 debtors who have not waged their bills for the past two years. The metro water board says them as chronic debtors who have not worried to pay bills in spite of several notices.
The water board is met with unresolved dues of `42 crore from water and sewerage payment debtors. For those who have not funded the money for six months or a year, a bill had been dispensed with a time limit for payment. Maximum of the violators are small-time hoteliers or function halls owners, hostels etc. The water board had carried out stoppages in every of its divisions — 14 in Narayanguda, 4 in Malakpet, and 41 in Charminar and other partitions in the south zone.
HMWSSB handling director M. Dana Kishore told, “The metro water board has recognized over 3,000 chronic debtors. Yet, this number might upsurge once physical checks are agreed out. For clients who have not funded for months, the board is delivering a cautionary with a limit. Though, those who have not paid for above two years and are still reluctant to pay up will face the law. We will remove their lines. The board does not upkeep disconnection, since it would cost more to recognize the lines, remove, and then rejoin when the payment is made. But, there is a realization that the debtors will pay up after such a severe action is taken.”
Clients fixing water meters on their own will be set a discount of five percent on their regular water bills for a year. As part of the voluntary confession scheme, above 25,000 illicit connection holders came onward for regularization of their lines.
That separately, Clients installing water meters on their own will be specified a discount of five percent on their month-wise water bills for a year. So far, over 30,000 clients have set up meters.
Water connections disconnected:
- In November – 3,380
- In December – 1,090
- Total revenue collected from defaulter in two months – Rs 10.5crore
- Pending revenue – Rs 42 crore
