Complainant alleged that she was admitted to the test tube baby centre for IVF treatment in 2007 September 4th.
Khammam District Consumer Forum has awarded compensation of 1 lakh to a woman who alleged medical negligence in a case of (in-vitro fertilization) IVF treatment that led to her developing a heterotrophic pregnancy, the ruling was given after 9 years for it.
This complaint was filed by Nagamani wife of Uma Venkata Rao a resident of Khammam town as per the report against Muvva Lakshmi Rajeshwari of the Rohit Test Tube Baby Centre in the town as said.
Complainant alleged that she was admitted to the test tube baby centre on September 4th, 2007 year for IVF treatment and the doctors told her that she had no capacity to release proper eggs and if she can obtain eggs from a donor and she would have a chance to become pregnant as reported.
Procedure was accordingly done and in time her pregnancy was established, but one day she experienced giddiness and was shifted to Rohit Test Tube Centre and after being advised by doctors there and she was shifted to Mamata General Hospital who diagnosed an ectopic pregnancy and due to the rupture of the fallopian tube Nagamani began hemorrhage, after a week the foetus in the uterus was also dead as filed.
Complainant had spent 1.7 lakh rupees on IVF treatment and 25000 rupees for bills at Mamata Hospital and 30000 over transportation and other charges and rohit Test Tube Centre argued before the Forum that the scan report did not reveal that the complainant had a heterotrophic pregnancy, which is very rare and they were not to guilt.
