S.A. RAJKUMAR – Music Composer and president of Music Union
It is a proud moment for our music society. SPB is a versatile artist. What makes him different is his crystal clear pronunciation of Tamil lyrics, although his mother tongue is Telugu. Right from his first appearance number Ayiram Nilave Vaa, which he rendered for late legend MGR, till today, he maintains his vocal sound intact. He has vocal for all generations of music creators – right from Kothandapani sir to KV Mahadevan sir to MSV anna to me to AR Rahman sir. He similarly made it public a few years back that he would never lend singing when the lyrics are coarse. That way he was also socially conscious. There can be single TMS, Kishore Kumar, P. Suseela, Manna Dey, Janaki and similarly one SPB sir. His individuality lies in his sole voice. He truly deserves the Centenary Award.
