Sachin Tendulkar says that he never thought that ‘Sachin Sachin’ (chant) would continue yonder his playing days.
Mumbai: ‘Sachin-Sachin’ chant has become so popular all over the globe, but the cricket icon Sachin Tendulkar on Tuesday had revealed that it was his mom who really started it.
“I never thought that ‘Sachin Sachin’ (chant) would continue yonder my playing days. It has currently gone to the theaters. I feel so happy,” the right-handed batsman stated.
He was talking after a song from the picture “Sachin: A Billion Dreams“, based on his life story, was launched here in the presence of legendary music composer A R Rahman.
“My mom (Rajni) started it in fact. I used to go play down the stairs and to call me back home, mom would call ‘Sachin Sachin’,” Tendulkar said when he asked when did he first heard that chant.
There is an iconic image of a young Tendulkar holding a cricket bat.
Enquired about it, Tendulkar said, “This was really taken at home when I was playing cricket with my brother. This was on the balcony. I was just four or five years then. My positions weren’t so perfect. What I relished was, hitting the ball. Be it a cricket bat or even a tennis racket. My brother would clamp tennis ball, few I used to hit that from the cricket bat, few from rackets.”
