As the sentence was proclaimed by CBI special magistrate Jagdeep Singh in a provisional court at Rohtak’s Sunaria custodial, the 50 years old so-called “godman” broke down, sought after forgiveness with folded hands and bent on the floor, declining to leave, stated sources who seen the proceedings.

The Dera main has been penalized for rape and illegal intimidation. He is also facing a distinct trial in two distinct murder cases in the year 2002 in which a Dera supervisor and Sirsa-based reporter were killed.

The CBI special magistrate, who tendered down the sentence to Ram Rahim, was hovered by helicopter to Rohtak from Panchkula.

The court proclaimed the sentence contrary to the cult guru at about 4 pm and smacked on him a fine of Rs 30 lakh — Rs 15 lakh for each of the two cases.

Moreover, Rs 14 lakh each will go to the two sufferers who were part of Ram Rahim’s group and were forced into having sex with him, 15 years back.

The CBI has fruitfully kept the identity of the two sufferers under wraps as 2002 when the rapes came to light through a nameless letter by two ladies, living in the Dera as sadhvis, claiming rape by the Dera main.

The Haryana and Punjab High Court had well-ordered a CBI investigation after taking awareness of the letter.

The judgment on Monday was trailed by hours of misunderstanding over the quantum of sentence as the early reports specified that Ram Rahim had been given down a combined sentence of 10 years in the two rape cases.

Very tight security provisions in Rohtak and other regions of Haryana and Punjab confirmed that there were no vicious protests by Ram Rahim’s cohorts after the judgment.

No leniency to Ram Rahim, says special Judge

Abhishek Dayal, CBI representative had clarified that Ram Rahim had been condemned to two successive 10-year jail terms.

In the meantime, a luxury car was apparently set on fire on Monday evening at Kotli village nearby Sirsa when the Dera chief’s sentence was proclaimed in court, the police department said, saying they were curious if the incident tangled Dera supporters.

All eyes presently are on Hisar where a judicial magistrate, Mukesh Kumar, is probable to offer a verdict on Tuesday in two illegal cases slapped against another provocative godman, Sant Rampal, who is in jurisdictional custody as his arrest from his invigorated Satlok Ashram close Barwala in Hisar in 2014.

6 people were slayed when his followers attacked the police at the time of his custody.

Through arguments before condemning in the Dera case, the prosecution said no lenience should be exposed to the convict and claimed a supreme sentence of life custody for him.

The defence wanted leniency on the ground that the Dera main was a social worker who had operated for the well-being of people.

The sufferers admired Gurmeet Ram Rahim Singh on the stand of God but he dedicated breach of the crucial nature, the special court said while declining any clemency.

The condition remained calm in disparity to the violence unchecked by his supporters in Panchkula and Sira, amid other areas, on Friday after he was held mortified.

A full of 38 people were slayed in the rioting and burning.
