Chandigarh/Rohtak: Among high drama, Dera Sacha Sauda main Gurmeet Ram Rahim Singh was penalized by a Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) special court to 20 years jail — two verdicts of 10 years respectively for two separate rapes that will ride one after the other.
As the sentence was proclaimed by CBI special magistrate Jagdeep Singh in a provisional court at Rohtak’s Sunaria custodial, the 50 years old so-called “godman” broke down, sought after forgiveness with folded hands and bent on the floor, declining to leave, stated sources who seen the proceedings.
The Dera main has been penalized for rape and illegal intimidation. He is also facing a distinct trial in two distinct murder cases in the year 2002 in which a Dera supervisor and Sirsa-based reporter were killed.

The judgment on Monday was trailed by hours of misunderstanding over the quantum of sentence as the early reports specified that Ram Rahim had been given down a combined sentence of 10 years in the two rape cases.
Very tight security provisions in Rohtak and other regions of Haryana and Punjab confirmed that there were no vicious protests by Ram Rahim’s cohorts after the judgment.
No leniency to Ram Rahim, says special Judge
Abhishek Dayal, CBI representative had clarified that Ram Rahim had been condemned to two successive 10-year jail terms.
In the meantime, a luxury car was apparently set on fire on Monday evening at Kotli village nearby Sirsa when the Dera chief’s sentence was proclaimed in court, the police department said, saying they were curious if the incident tangled Dera supporters.
