SRINAGAR: A top Lashkar-e-Taiba terrorist hiding in a house in J&K’s Pulwama has been killed in the Padgampora Encounter, army sources say. To catch a second terrorist believed to be in the building, the army had his wife use a loudspeaker to urge him to surrender.
The terrorist who was shot dead is Jehangir Ganai, who was involved in the killing of a policeman last year, sources stated. The second terrorist, Sher Gujri, is still fighting with security forces. His wife, states sources, has been asking him to come out.
The army stated both are locals from Koel in south Kashmir.
Security forces began an anti-terror operation early this morning after being hint about 3-4 terrorists hiding in a house.
This is the 2nd major encounter in the area in last 4 days. Earlier, 2 terrorists were killed in an encounter in the Pulwama district’s Tral area. A policeman also lost his life and 3 security officers were injured in the gun battle that started on Saturday evening and continued for over 24 hours.
The encounter also follows the 12-hour anti-terror operation near Lucknow on Tuesday, in which terror suspect Saifullah was killed. He was believed to be a part of a Lashkar-e-Taiba group that was planning a major attack on a Sufi shrine in UP later this month. The Lashkar-e-Taiba group was also apparently involved in the explosion on a train in Madhya Pradesh on Tuesday morning.
Home Minister Rajnath Singh is likely to make a statement in parliament today about the suspected ISIS module and the anti-terror operation.
