The Super car McLaren 570S is getting to another variant to go along with its siblings 540C, 570GT. This Sport Series 570S is also receiving an open-top Spider iteration to be launched by the end of this year. Everyone like open top cars, right?
The forthcoming 570S Spider is empowered by the same twin-turbocharged 3.8-liter V-8 found in another Sport Series cars which will be developing 562 hp and 443 lb-ft. For the drop-top’s operation, the super car will likely see a very similar folding hard-top roof as was equipped in the 650S Spider. Weight would likely increase, but as given that the engineers at McLaren are notorious in their quest for keeping weight in minimum, it is not expected to climb drastically.
Undoubtedly we won’t see a decrease in performance as the 570S Spider will likely to match the 570S’ credentials, such as its 3.2-second 0-62 mph time and top speed of 205 mph. Though, where the coupe and drop-top will be more greatful to show their differences likely be in price.
The starting price is at $188,000 and in the past with the 650S and 650S Spider, $20,000 difference in price between the coupe and drop-top saw where the drop-top being more expensive. Keeping that in mind, we wouldn’t be surprised to see the 570S Spider tiptoeing over $200,000.
In the markets that have the more affordable 540C, you are out of drop-top luck. As speaking with Autocar, Mike Flewitt, McLaren’s boss said, “With the 540C car, before you add options it can cost the same as a 570S that is why we only offer it in few markets. And because of that, it doesn’t make any sense to do a 540C Spider. Therefore it will never be a 540GT either.”
