New Delhi: The BJP swept to power in the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) on Wednesday, winning the elections held in all 3 municipalities in a landslide.
With most of the trends in, BJP is far in advance of AAP and Congress. BJP is leading in 52 out of 86 seats in MCD North, 63 out of 97 in MCD South, and 37 out of 54 in MCD East. AAP and Congress party are now fighting for 2nd place, with AAP just ahead of Congress.
“Trends look in alter with what I saw during election campaigning. People have faith in policies of BJP, and leadership of PM,” leader Dr Harsh Vardhan states.
BJP has now established a clear-cut lead in all 3 areas – with around half the trends in. AAP has been demoted to 3rd position in MCD East and South, and is neck-to-neck with Congress in MCD North.
Initial trends show BJP leading in all 3 areas – MCD East, MCD North and MCD South. Congress is doing much better than the exit poll predictions in all three areas. AAP is at the second position in MCD North, and third position in MCD East and MCD South.
As many as 90,000 officers of Delhi Police, paramilitary forces and Home Guards were positioned at counting centers.
The BJP could be lead for a landslide victory, with 2 exit polls predicting the party concluding way ahead of the AAP and the Congress with over 200 of the 270 wards where polling was held.
Voting to pick 3 new municipal corporations in Delhi took place on Sunday, in which 54% of the 1.32 crore people exercised their votes till 5.30 p.m. when polling ended in 270 wards of the 3 municipal corporations.
On polling day, Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal attacked the State EC claiming that reports of “faulty” EVMs were pouring in from across the national capital.
