John Legend is taking the high avenue after revealing a recent happening where he comes to talk about to as a “monkey” by means of a photographer.
John Legend‘s wife, Chrissy Teigen, first tweeted about the incident, explaining the couple had been at the big apple’s John F. Kennedy airport when a paparazzi started out to harass them.
The incident happened last week whilst Legend was at JFK airport with wife Chrissy Teigen.
“Paparazzi at JFK simply requested me ‘If we evolved from monkeys, why is John Legend still around?’ – and people marvel why celebs lose it in pics,” Teigen wrote after the racially-charged encounter occurred.
John Legend then agreed on the incident on the range Studio on Saturday, even as selling his WGN series underground on the Sundance movie pageant in Park metropolis, Utah. The Oscar-winner defined that even though he become to start with taken aback via the motion, he wasn’t overall surprised by the paps’ unaware remark.
“We were right succeeding to every different and we checked out each other like, ‘Did he sincerely just say that?’ And he actually said it. He essentially called me a monkey,” John taught the mag.
“Black parents have needed to deal with being referred to as monkeys for a long term and dehumanization has continually been kind of a technique of racism and subjugation of black people and that’s simply a part of American records — and it’s a part of the existing, apparently.”
Happily, Legend says that he’s not letting the unfortunate incident bring him down. Rather, he’s taking the excessive road because now he’s “smarter” and “more potent.”
“We noticed with the former president, Obama, whenever people wanted to discount him or bargain his spouse, they compared them to apes,” he explained.
“And we’ve seen that regularly. I’m no longer hurt via a person announcing that to me due to the fact I’m smarter, I’m more forceful. I appearance down on that person that might say something like that. But it’s a disgrace that it nonetheless exists.”
