IPL betting had made 2 people arrested from city’s only five-star hotel, which is situated close to the stadium.
Kanpur: Just a day after Gujarat Lions and Delhi Daredevils IPL match clashed here, cops have imprisoned three people who were apparently running a betting racket from the same hotel where the two cricket teams were staying.

Previous night when the game was on at the Green Park ground, the BCCI’s Anti-Corruption and Security Unit (ACSU) started action on info that a betting racket was running from the Landmark Hotel, said the Senior Superintendent of Police of Kanpur, Akash Kulhari.
Two people were in prison from 17th floor of the city’s single five-star hotel, which is situated near to the stadium.
They have been recognized as Nayan Shah, an innate of Maharashtra, and Vikas Kumar, who came from Pukhrayan the adjoining city of Kanpur Dehat district, he said.
The third alleged in the racket is Ramesh Kumar is from the Green Park stadium and employs as a sub-contractor in the cash-rich IPL, the SSP said.
Rendering to the police, Kumar used to remain at the stadium and lead pitch reports to his two allied at the hotel.
Grounded on the inputs about the pitch, Vikas and Shah used to have the bets, he said, saying close-shot pictures of the pitch were seen from the mobile phone held from Kumar.
It has been known from the BCCI sources that Ramesh, who was a chunk of the logistics crew, had “promised” the bookie Shah that he has associates amid groundsmen, who can drizzle more water on the 22-yard ground to fiddle with the playing circumstances.
“Though Ramesh had not anything to do with pitch groundwork activity, he had swanked to the bookie that his admittance to Green Park groundsmen will aid him meddle with the pitch. Extra water would make the pitch wet and it would be a low-scoring matter,” a BCCI source told media.
Yet Gujarat Lions had scored 196 and Daredevils had chased the target off the last delivery in a high-scoring concern.
After it bowed out to be high-scoring game, Ramesh told bookie Shah that in spite of his arrangements, the scoring outline wasn’t exaggerated.
“The Anti Corruption Unit of the BCCI has been stalking activities of specific individuals, as a consequence of which, three defendants were in prison in Kanpur, on Thursday,” stated BCCI.
“Succeeding this operation, the Uttar Pradesh Police Crime Branch could positively foil the unproven betting efforts of the accused. This was a consequence of the ACU of the BCCI, having functioned closely with numerous law enforcement organizations, who will endure further inquiries, in this matter,” the BCCI said.
SP Gaurav Grover said Rs 4.90 lakh, 4 mobile phones, and a laptop were recovered from these men.
They are being interrogated for additional details, the SP said, saying the police were also trying to know out how they got hotel rooms where the cricketers were staying.
Police was also interrogating the staffers of the Landmark Hotel in this respect.
