IPL auction: Big Ben Stokes strikes it rich

Bengaluru: Ben Stokes is going to be whistling his thanks to the bank this summer because the English all arounder became the most expensive overseas player of all time within the Indian Premier League.

During the auction sooner than the tenth edition of the franchise-based tournament here on Monday, England all arounder Stokes was roped in by Rising Pune Supergiants for an impressive Rs 14.5 crores.

Joining his compatriot for his visit to the bank are going to be Tymal Mills because the pacer was snared by Royal Challengers for a humongous `12 crore. The T20 specialist bowler’s strategy of setting his base value to `50 lakh to draw in bids worked utterly.

Desperately needing a strike bowler to switch the mercurial Mitchell Starc, RCB entered the bid at Rs 7.5 crore and proceeded to power their well past MI and Kolkata Knight Riders to clinch their man for Rs twelve crore. A humongous twenty-four times his terms.

Among the opposite massive winners were Trent Boult, Kagiso Rabada, bought for 5 crores by KKR and Delhi Daredevils severally, Pat cummings (Rs 4.5 crores to DD) and Chris Woakes (Rs 4.2 crore to KKR). Australian bowler Mitchell Johnson (MI), England batsman Eoin Morgan (KXIP), Sri Lankan Angelo Mathews (DD) and Kiwi’s power hitter Corey Anderson (DD) all went for his or her base value of Rs 2 crore.

Jason Roy (Rs 1cr. to Gujarat Lions) and Nathan Coulter-Nile (Rs 3.5 Cr to KKR) found their suitors within the afternoon once they were recalled by the franchises.

Pune were the largest spenders on the day as they used nearly the whole budget, spending Rs 17.2 crore on 9 players. Gujarat Lions, meanwhile, was at the opposite finish of the spectrum with simply Rs Rs 3.85 crore spent off their Rs 14.35 kitty on eleven players. RCB, not amazingly, were the second biggest spenders with Rs 15.4 crore with KKR simply behind them on Rs 14.4 crore.
