Hyderabad: Residents of Moosanagar and Malakpet are facing severe water shortages in the past 15 days due to continued repairs on damaged pipelines.
The Drinking water was supplied two weeks ago, but the sump remains totally contaminated because the repaired drainage pipes have completely turned.
The authorities are also repairing the supply line that has been affected by the rust – the lines have allowed the contaminants to mix with drinking water. Sarvar Khan, a resident of Moosanagar, said: “Earlier, the water was only supplied for 15 minutes at night, but it also stopped because of the leakage of pipes. Very difficult and we are forced to collect water in the tankers, but the tankers only come once a week and we are able to produce only two or three cans of water.
Another resident, Rubina said that complaints and quick repairs on the pipes did not work. “Last year, polluted water mixed with pure drinking water after the drainage pipes broke out, and the problem was solved after complaints were filed with the water department. 15 days ago, the water was delivered two weeks ago, but the sump remains totally contaminated because the repaired drainage pipes have completely turned in. Despite the repeated complaints, the officials did not respond.
T. Mahesh, an HMWS & SB official, said: “The main problem with this area is that the drain pipes and the water pipes were placed side by side. Last year, a broken drain pipe was replaced but this year another pipe developed rusts and holes. Because of these holes, mud and silt formed in the water pipes – there cannot be of water as the pipes are smothered.
