US State Department Rex Tillerson expresses sorrow over Kansas shooting
U.S. State Department deputy spokesperson Mark Toner has said that Secretary of State Rex Tillerson has made clear to his counterparts and the condolences over the recent alleged racial attack in Kansas.
“Secretary Tillerson has made clear to his matching part our condolences over these killings. They are, it’s important to note, still under investigation by local law enforcement and we have been waiting to see the results of those investigations,” said by Toner in a statement.
Refraining from remarking on the reason behind the recent violent attacks in the state, Toner expressed his sympathy and sorrow towards the bereaved families.
“So I don’t really want to speak to what may or may not be the motivation behind these killings, but certainly, we share in the sorrow of the families and loved ones of these victims,” the statement said.
An Indian engineer, Srinivas Kuchibhotla was earlier shot to death on February 22 in Kansas in an alleged racial attack, after the gunman was heard shouting “get out of my country”.
According to local media, the gunman, Adam Purinton, 51 who is a Navy veteran was arrested after escaping the spot of incident after he allegedly blasted off several rounds on Thursday.
The police say Purinton shot and killed Kuchibhotla, an engineer at GPS maker Garmin International and also wounded his colleague Alok Madasani.
He was reportedly taken into the custody by the police at Applebee’s in Clinton, Missouri, about 82 miles southeast of Olathe.
Purinton was working as a desktop support specialist for an information technology company in the Kansas City area.
