Gauri Lankesh had told her mom Indramma that she had seen two guys on a bike following her from her office, say representatives.
Bengaluru: The Special Investigation Team (SIT) directed by the IGP, Intelligence, Bengaluru, BK Singh that has been appointed by Chief Minister Siddaramaiah to examine the brutal assassination of firebrand journalist and Social activist Ms. Gauri Lankesh is going through the CCTV footage from the cameras installed at the Gauri Lankesh Patrike editor’s house in Rajarajeshwari Nagar.
Representatives told this paper that as reported on Tuesday, after Ms. Gauri had told her mom Indramma that she had seen two guys on a bike following her from her office in Gandhi Bazaar to her house in Rajarajeshwari Nagar a fortnight ago, she had connected CCTV cameras at the arrival to her home.
The SIT that has a 31-member crew, with DCP (West) MN Anucheth as its Investigative Officer, has previously collected each minute detail from the crime scene over Tuesday night. But it’s the tape from the two CCTV cameras at Gauri’s house which could prove decisive. Though grainy and dark, it has allegedly captured the complete incident in which a murderer can be seen impelling three bullets into Ms. Gauri, killing her.
Police department yet said that neither Ms. Gauri nor her mom alerted the police that she had been followed many days ago. Yet, she was planned to meet the Home Minister Ramalinga Reddy on Monday “for a conversation” but did not turn up. Sources close by to Ms.Gauri now supposed that she might have wanted to meet the HM and converse the occurrence and demand safety for herself.
“She was residing in the house alone for above 10 years. She never sensed the need for a safety or the installation of CCTV cameras. It was 15 days ago she ordered for the connection two CCTV cameras after a suspicion that she was being tracked,” the source stated.
A police representative who is acquainted with developments told that the crew was inspecting the past 15 days CCTV footage from Gauri’s home and 20 days CCTV footage from cameras installed in nearby areas as they have a strong notion that the two murderers had done an entire recce of the region and were conscious of all the ways and the particular location of the cameras connected in Gauri’s house.
“The murder, certainly, was precisely planned before its implementation. We suspect that the murderers had closely trailed the movements of Ms. Gauri for 15-20 days.
On Tuesday also, the murderers, rendering to the police sources, had trailed Ms. Gauri’s car in a bike from her workplace, till her home. As she parked her car, walked out and moved towards the gate to open it, two helmet-wearing guys came to her, with one of them opening fire at her.
