Telangana IT Minister K.T. Rama Rao stated that the government would acquire all sarees from TS weavers from succeeding year by placing orders in advance.
Hyderabad: The Telangana State government will start the distribution of 1.04 crore free sarees for the eve of Bathukamma for coming three days starts from Monday. Around 52 lakh of these sarees were obtained from TS weavers, and the remaining sarees from Surat and somewhere else. The scheme prices Rs 222 crore.
IT Minister K.T. Rama Rao stated that the government would get all saris from TS weavers from next year by putting orders in advance.
Closely 7.5 crore metres of cloth was utilised to make the sarees in 500 designs and colours enthused by the festival. The colours and designs were selected by women administrators from the Chief Minister’s Office. Sailaja Ramaiyyer, the Textiles commissioner had led the group of officials that obtained the sarees.
Every single woman aged 18 years and above, coming from a family holding white ration card and Aadhaar, is worthy to get the saree.
