Hyderabad: A circular from the Indian Electoral Commission (ECI), seeking details on the constituencies of the Assembly, created confusion between political parties, especially the parties that govern the two Telugu countries.
To update its data, the ECI sent a circular to all states, including Telangana and Andhra Pradesh, requesting the Chief Electoral Officers to send details on the constituencies of the Assembly.
CEOs were asked to give details such as the number of villages in each constituency, the number of cities, the population and neighborhoods in each municipality in each constituency.
In turn, the CEOs sent the circular to all district collectors, looking for details.
The political parties of the two States, awaiting the delimitation of the constituencies of the Assembly, concluded that the details sought concerned the delimitation process.
The circular led the leaders to seek information from officials of the Electoral Commission. Meanwhile, V, Venkateswara Rao Chief Electoral Officer additional, said that the circular issued by the Central Electoral Commission has nothing to do with the delimitation of constituencies of the Assembly.
Speaking to this newspaper, he said to update the data, the ECI issued the circular to all states, not just AP and TS. Updated data will be used by ECI as and when required.
