Kurnool: Gorakallu reservoir that was built to store water through the Galeru Nagari Sujala Sravanthi (GNSS) canal has become a bane for the people of Gorakallu village in Panyam Mandal of Kurnool district. Villagers allege that the reservoir was constructed with the sub-standard material. As a result, the water is seeping into the village, creating puddles and rivulets making life miserable for the villagers. Gripped with fear, the villagers of the Gorakallu in Panyam mandal had approached the authorities to shift them to safer zones. So far nothing has happened, they say.
The officials started to store water through the Galeri Nagari Sujala Sravanthi (GNSS) canal in the reservoir since the last one year. Currently, there is 2.41 TMC of water stored in the dam. Apart from this, the villagers have been demanding to relocate their village along with their agriculture lands. The government has only collected the lands under land acquisition process to construct the reservoir. The officials have not shown any interest in taking steps to relocate the village as they foresee no problem to the village with the reservoir in the future.
