Hyderabad: Most automated teller machines (ATMs) can continue to be dry next week after three holidays on Saturday and Sunday, according to experts. Messages about banker groups Whatsapp said that the treasury banks with some nationalized banks were empty, and the offer of RBI tickets was not enough.
An official said that withdrawals were more in the week’s pay. “This has led to cash-strapped ATMs, with 1,000 ATMs and 500 off-site, with only 20 per cent of the money available until Friday. The second Saturday and Sunday, and the situation will not change, he said.
The city has 1,000 onsite and 500 offsite ATMs of which only 20 per cent had cash till Friday.
Another banker said banks would work on Monday, Holi. “If we receive money from the RBI, we will fund withdrawals from the banks and send the rest of the cash to the Automatic Teller Machines. If customers draw more money to avoid transaction costs, the crisis we have encountered during demonetisation will be repeated.
