The couple, wedded on June 12, 2014, has been living individually since March 3,2015, following the difference of opinion between them.
Chennai: The II Additional Principal Family Court, Chennai, has approved decree of divorce to artist Amala Paul and director A.L Vijay on Tuesday.
In August previous year, they seemed separately in front of the principal family court, Chennai and filed the petition for the break up by mutual consent under Section 13 (b) of Hindu Marriage Act and set in motion the divorce records.
The six-month legal judicial separation period started for the pair commenced on filing the divorce appeal.
Artist Amala Paul made her debut in a Tamil movie ‘Veerasekaran’ and she shot into fame for her act in ‘Mynaa’. She acted with leading Tamil flick heroes Vikram in “Deiva Thirumagal” in 2011, Vijay in “Thalaivaa” in 2013. Both the movies were directed by A.L. Vijay, son of a yesteryear flick producer A.L. Alagappan.

At the time the filming of Thalaivaa, they became friends. She also acted in numerous Tamil, Malayalam and Telugu movies. Vijay directed several movies including Poi Solla Porom in 2008, in 2010 Madrasapattinam, in 2012 Thaandavam and Devi in 2016.
After their marriage ceremony, they were living in a house at Boat Club. As Amala Paul continued to act in movies after marriage, differences of opinion bring in up among them. Citing “compatibility problems” as the reason for divorce, they filed the divorce appeal before Family Court.
When the problem came up for hearing before II Additional Principal Family Court, the district Judge Irusan Poonguzhali, granted a decree of break up to them on Tuesday as they completed the six-month legal judicial separation period.
