Bharti Airtel on Wednesday launched a new Internet TV set top box
Wednesday, Bharti Airtel has launched a new ‘Internet TV’ set top box pricing Rs 4,999 with subscription of all channels (SD and HD) is free for one month.
The new set top box will be available for the next 30 days on Amazon.in in the top 20 cities, which runs on Google’s Android TV OS and along with it supports the app store which gives you apps and games support. . The set top box will be supporting and handling linear programming as well which means consumers can regularly watch TV channels on it.
This means that the consumer can now be able stream the Netflix content directly. Airtel, which has already speaking to other content makers like hotstar, Amazon Prime, Video and Voot, are also offering the new set top box at a price of Rs 7,999 with one year DTH subscription.
Sunil Taldar the CEO and director of DTH division, Bharti Airtel, told HT that the Airtel’s new set top box is able to make any dumb TV smart and will be killing the need of having some streaming devices like Google Chromecast or Apple TV in which it comes with own casting hardware
Further he added that set top box will also solve the need for users to watch Netlfix-like content on bigger screens.
The new Internet TV set top box will also be coming with a voice command support on remote just like as any smart TV remote would get a specific new controller for playing games. Set top box have both the facilities like connecting to WiFi and LAN port for connection.
In a statement Airtel said that already existing customers can also upgrade to the new Internet TV set top box at a price of Rs 3,999. Moreover, Airtel has been offering 10GB and 25GB of extra broadband data to all existing customers with plans under and above Rs 999 respectively.
